7/23/14 Day 188 Ghent, Belgium and the Gentse Festeen

The drive from Amsterdam is an easy one with few tolls to avoid and minimal traffic as we continue on towards our next stop, Ghent on the 5 weeks whirlwind Europe with Julie and Celeste. We just so happened to time our dates so we could visit during the famous 10 Days Off festival, or Gentse Festeen which is a free festival concentrated in the historic city center. There is free music, drinking in the streets, dance lessons, frites galore and lots of shiny lights. The city pretty much shuts down for these two weeks as well, and as Tim and Ben our CS hosts explained hardly anyone who does work these weeks makes it there on time or at all. We spent three days exploring the different stages and musical talent sponsored by the various bars and of course drinking plenty of Jupiter, brewed in nearby Liege and a bargain at only .75€ a tall can. The city of Ghent is overwhelmingly beautiful with its canal side location and amazing classic architecture and the musicians and bar stages really brought our visit to life!

Discreet border crossing

Fun musical talent all over the city

The canals by daylight

Permanent, solar powered outside urinals, great for all of those beer guzzling men
Very cool graffiti and plastic wrap

City center castle

Canal side stages

And most importantly frites!
Our host, Tim
